Central Sterile Processing Technician Daytime Class
Length of course: 12-weeks

Description: Sterile Processing Technicians work in health care organizations to prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies used in the operating room and to care for patients in a variety of settings including hospitals, surgery centers, cosmetic surgery centers, ambulatory surgical sites, dental offices, and laboratories. Your job as a professional Central Services Tech will be crucial to the health and safety of every patient and healthcare worker. That is why the Central Sterile Processing department is referred to as, “the heart of the hospital”.
Career Outlook: The medical field is the fastest-growing sector in America, and it is projected to increase by at least 20% through the next 5 years. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of the Central Sterile Processing Technician is expected to grow nationally 14 % faster than the average, through 2024. Employment opportunities for central sterile processing technicians are expected to be excellent, due to increased needs within the health care industry and a larger and older population.
Work Attire: As a Sterile Processing Tech, you will be able to work in comfortable medical uniforms (scrubs) and non-skid shoes..
Average Salary and Wages: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the national average salary of a Central Service Technician is $25.34 per hour.
Program Objective: This course will focus on the requirements of the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) and prepares you to take the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification exam. Successful completion of this course will allow you to sit for the national exam and receive your preliminary certification. Students are
required to complete 400-hours of work (for pay or as a volunteer) in a Central Service department, after completion of the course, in order to earn their permanent Sterile Processing Technician certification. All efforts are made to
ensure that each student is matched with a hospital, prior to graduating from the program. You may begin
working in the field, as soon as you finish the program…just 3 short months!
Course Curriculum: Human Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Infection Control, Decontamination, Sterilization, Surgical Instrumentation Processing, Distribution, Complex Surgical Instruments,
Medical Terminology, HIPAA Privacy Practices, and more!
Admission Requirements:
18 years of age or older
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to pass a criminal background check
English Fluency (verbal and written)
Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds and to reach overhead
