The Accelerated Sterile Processing Technician Training Program at Michigan Healthcare Academy (MHA) contains everything you love about our two-day per week program but now offered in a “fast-track,” 4-day per week course! Participants will finish the program in just 5-weeks and are ready to begin employment!

Career Description: Sterile Processing Technicians work in health care organizations to prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies used in the operating room and to care for patients in a variety of settings including hospitals, surgery centers, cosmetic surgery centers, ambulatory surgical sites, dental offices, and laboratories. Your job as a professional Central Services Tech will be crucial to the health and safety of every patient and healthcare worker. That is why the Central Sterile Processing department is referred to as, “the heart of the hospital”.
Career Outlook: The medical field is the fastest-growing sector in America, and it is projected to increase by at least 20% through the next 5 years. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of the Central Sterile Processing Technician is expected to grow nationally 14 % faster than the average, through 2024. Employment opportunities for central sterile processing technicians are expected to be excellent, due to increased needs within the health care industry and a larger and older population.
Work Attire: As a Sterile Processing Tech, you will be able to work in comfortable medical uniforms (scrubs) and non-skid shoes.
Average Salary and Wages: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the national average salary of a Central Service Technician is $25.34 per hour. However, wages vary greatly and are dependent on experience and facility.
Program Objective: This course will focus on the requirements of the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (Formally IAHCSMM)) and prepares you to take the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification exam. Successful completion of this course will allow you to sit for the national exam and receive your preliminary certification. Students are required to complete 400-hours of work (for pay or as a volunteer) in a Central Service department, after completion of the course, in order to earn their permanent Sterile Processing Technician certification. MHA is proud to announce that 99% of students who have taken this course and sat for their certification exam, have passed! You may begin working in the field, as soon as you finish the program.
Course Curriculum: Human Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Infection Control, Decontamination, Sterilization,
Surgical Instrumentation Processing, Distribution, Complex Surgical Instruments, Medical Terminology, HIPAA privacy practices, and more!
Requirements:
18 years of age or older
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to pass a criminal background check
English Fluency (verbal and written)
Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds and to reach overhead
Must be able to attend all scheduled class time

Payment options:
Weekly Payment Plan: MHA also allows you to apply pre-arranged interest-free weekly or bi-weekly payments on your program. All balances must be paid in full no later than one week prior to the last day of class, in order to receive your certificate. Two or more late payments will result in dismissal from the program.
Michigan Works and Detroit at Work: If you are currently unemployed or underemployed, you may be eligible to receive paid tuition and training costs through these state-funded programs. Contact the office

Refund/Cancellation Policy:
All class cancellations must be in writing and sent to registration@mihealthcareacademy.com. Only partial tuition costs are refundable for this program. If you need to cancel a program, for any reason, you will be issued the following tuition refund after the refund charge is applied:
20% 8-14 business days before class starts
30% 5-7 business days before class starts
50% 2-4 business days before class starts
NO REFUND 1 business day before class and thereafter
