Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Able to pass a criminal background check
- English Fluency (verbal and written)
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods
- Personal health insurance upon entry and for the duration of the program
Career Information: A Phlebotomist is a person who draws blood for laboratory testing, transfusions, blood donations, or research. They work in hospitals, blood donor centers, physician’s offices, and laboratories. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics; the demand for Phlebotomists will continue to be 17% higher than other occupations!
The median annual wage for phlebotomists: According to salary.com, The average Phlebotomist salary in Michigan is $38,687 as of July 25, 2023, but the range typically falls between $34,849 and $43,207. Salary ranges can vary widely depending on the city and many other important factors including education, certifications, additional skills, the number of years you have spent in your profession.
Course Information: This course provides phlebotomy instruction to the student with a working knowledge of collecting blood and other specimens with an emphasis on patient safety, quality assurance, infection control practices such as universal and standard precautions, and personal protective equipment (PPE). This course utilizes theory, lecture, clinical laboratory practice, and proven methodology to effectively prepare students for the National Health Career Association (NHA) certification exam. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate of completion from Michigan Healthcare Academy. This along with required blood draws will allow the student to take the national certification exam and become Certified Phlebotomy Technicians!
