Program information: Students first day of their program will be Monday July 08, 2024. You are NOT required to come into the school on this day. You will receive a homework assignment that needs to be completed at home and turned in on Tuesday July 09, 2024 (Your first in-school session).

During this 16-week (two day per week) accelerated course, students will learn prescription processing, medication uses and side effects, how to measure, dose and dispense medications, prepare IV solutions and compounds, perform drug conversions and calculations, pharmacy billing, and more!

This program has been approved by the Board of Pharmacy and the State of Michigan. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate of training and are eligible to sit for the National Pharmacy Certification exam through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Upon successfully passing this exam, students will become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)!

Career description: As a pharmacy technician you will receive medication orders from physicians and customers, process prescriptions according to the pharmacist’s specifications, count, pour, and mix pharmaceuticals (including IV’s and compounds), sterilize trays, scales and equipment, manage inventory, assist with insurance claims, and help customers with questions.

Places of employment: Pharmacy Technicians can be found working in hospitals, chain pharmacies, independent pharmacies, compound and specialty pharmacies, grocery stores, health insurance companies and government agencies.

Job Outlook: The U.S. Board of Labor Statistics states, “the population is aging, and older people typically use more prescription medicines than younger people. Higher rates of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, among all age groups also will lead to increased demand for prescription medications. Advances in pharmaceutical research will allow for more prescription medications to be used to fight diseases. In addition, pharmacy technicians will be needed to take on a greater role in pharmacy operations because pharmacists are increasingly performing more patient care activities, such as giving flu shots. Technicians will need to perform tasks—such as collecting patient information, preparing more types of medications, and verifying the work of other technicians—that were previously done by pharmacists.”

Admission Requirements:
18 years of age or older
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to pass a criminal background check
English Fluency (verbal and written)
Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds, bend at the waist, and reach overhead

Tuition: $2999
You may hold your spot in class with a $249.00 deposit (deposit applied toward tuition).

Payment options: We accept Michigan Works, Detroit at Work, employer sponsorship, and most funding programs. Weekly or bi-weekly payment plans are available with 0% interest. Two or more late payments will result in dismissal from the program. All balances must be paid in full one week prior to the last day of class in order to receive your certificate.
